The latest version of PrestaShop, 1.7.7, has finally been released and we are excited to update all our clients' webshops to this new version. This update focuses on improving the order overview and detail pages, which is a crucial aspect of any online store. Read on to find out more about these enhancements.
Why is PrestaShop focusing on the order pages?
The order pages in the backend are crucial for any online store. If they do not function properly, it can quickly lead to negative consequences for your entire business. As PrestaShop itself states: "they are one of the most frequently used pages by our sellers," and they really needed to be updated: "The pages were particularly unpleasant to use due to their outdated look and the order of information, which led to inefficiencies and misunderstandings for our sellers." To ensure that they made the 'right' changes to these pages, PrestaShop interviewed various types of sellers about their webshops. Based on the results of this research, they knew exactly which existing functionalities needed to be improved and which new ones needed to be added.
Below, we explain how these (new) features will enhance your user experience when you upgrade to 1.7.7.
1. Overview of PrestaShop Order Pages
Every business strives to save time and increase productivity, whether they sell offline or online. PrestaShop understands this and has focused on making the order overview page clearer and more user-friendly. With the new features below, sellers can view and process more information from the overview page without having to click through to the order detail page.
Order status
The editable order statuses and new color scheme for these statuses are highly beneficial for efficient order processing. With editable status labels, you can easily change the status from "awaiting bank transfer" to "delivered" with just a drop-down menu. In addition, PrestaShop has selected four standard status colors for different situations, making it easier to determine whether a status requires attention or whether you can focus on other things.
Customer profile and order preview.
Quickly checking information is crucial when it comes to customer data and other essential details, such as billing addresses, courier information, or product lists. That's why PrestaShop has developed two functions: the customer profile and the order preview. You no longer need to open the order, simply click on the customer name in the overview and the customer profile opens in a new tab. The same goes for checking the products that this customer has ordered. Click on the icon next to the order ID, and a pop-up will appear with the essential information of the order.
Bulk actions and opening in new tabs
Sometimes it is very convenient to process multiple orders at once. Therefore, PrestaShop has expanded the options for bulk actions and added the ability to open them in new tabs. This way, it becomes much easier to process multiple orders at once, and you can, for example, change the order status of multiple orders at the same time.
2. PrestaShop Order Detail Pages
Additionally, PrestaShop also focused on improving the readability and positioning of information on the order detail pages to enhance the user experience. Through their survey, they discovered that many PrestaShop users prefer to see the list of ordered products when opening a detail page for an order. In response, PrestaShop 1.7.7 now displays the ordered products at the top of the screen. The hooks that our developers can add to the detail pages have also been moved to more strategic positions to create a better UX. What other features have been added or improved on the detail page?
Pagination and message interface.
The product list on the order detail page can be as long as the order list on the overview page. Therefore, PrestaShop has added pagination to the product list. This new feature becomes visible when an order contains more than 8 products.
Another area that needed improvement was how messages to customers were displayed. In PrestaShop 1.7.7., the 4 most recent messages are displayed. If you want to read older messages, you can use the message interface to view the entire conversation in a separate pop-up. This is another useful way to keep all important information on one page, instead of constantly switching between pages.
Customized and packaged products
Customized and packaged products can now be easily viewed on one page in PrestaShop 1.7.7. You can access additional information or files for each personalized product by simply clicking on it. The same applies to pack products, where you can quickly see what this particular pack consists of via a pop-up.
